Marketing to the Picky Customer

Due to the ever-increasing amount of marketing that we see on a daily basis, it is little wonder that people do not necessarily have a good impression of marketing. Breaking down the suspicions can be difficult. This is the challenge for today's marketers.

This makes the marketer's job really hard, even harder than ever. There are more and more ways of marketing to people, especially with the popularity of the internet now. But this just makes is harder because people feel bombarded with marketing and they may not pay as much attention. People tend to tune these things out now. It's even harder and harder to break through with your marketing.

People feel like marketing is being shoved in their faces from every direction and more and more buyers are becoming pickier than ever. They can comparison shop and look into prices on the internet. They have more options for the items they want. This makes them harder to convince.

All of this means that it is even more important to be open and to the point. Customers want to know what is in it for them. Resist the temptation to waffle on; it will do you no favors.

You need to be creative and you need to appeal to their emotional side as well as to their informative side. You need to give them as much information as possible about the product and why it is right for them. You also want to appeal to their emotional side and make them feel like they need the product.

Customers also value good customer service. They need to trust you and believe that you will deal with any issues promptly. Staff should always be friendly, polite and well-informed.

Making a potential customer feel important and special is the first step to marketing success. Train all sales people to provide accurate and user-friendly information, but also to show that they care. Remember a customer will soon walk away if they feel that you won't deal with them as an individual.
